A way of representing tones in a printed image. A photo is made up of continuous tones, which a PC cannot represent. Instead, the photo is converted into millions of tiny dots ΓÇö often too small for the eye to see. A group of small dots shows up as a light area and a group of large dots as a dark area. If you want to print any photo, either on your laser printer or with a commercial printer, you will need to convert the photograph into a halftone image. A scanner, it will do this automatically.
